In the Netherlands, a project is being developed to create a floating dairy farm that can meet the growing demand for dairy products.

This is not the first such project to create special architectural solutions that can be placed right in the water. Last year, architecture firm Forward Thinking proposed a three-deck floating farm that will provide over 200,000 sq. M. m of area for growing fish and crops.
The new floating farm aims to create dairy products. The project is a partnership between three large Dutch companies, which, together, plan to give milk to the entire population of the city of Rotterdam.

The first prototype of the floating farm will be small: 40 meters long and 32 meters wide. This area is enough to house 40 cows, which can produce up to 1500 kg of milk every day. The developers of the project say that this design can be easily scaled to the size of more than 200 cows, which can produce 5000 kg of milk daily.
The farm structure will contain small gardens with artificial grass for grazing animals. Grass for livestock feeding will be grown in short cycles in special areas, which will be illuminated by LED lamps. Also, the design provides for a special system for collecting and filtering rainwater.

The entire floating farm will be powered by solar panels and hydro turbines. The use of renewable energy sources thus makes such a project self-sufficient. In addition, the location of the farm near the city will reduce the cost of transporting products.
It is worth noting that the farm will include a high-tech laboratory that will investigate food production and water purification processes.
The construction of the farm is scheduled to begin this month and be completed in December.
