Nissan has unveiled a futuristic three-seater concept, the Blade Glider, which has all the chances to become production within the next two years.

The "wedge-shaped" appearance of the Nissan Blade Glider is reminiscent of the Deltawing and ZEOD RC electric racing cars, which also have a narrower front and wider rear.

The narrow meter front track and wide-spaced rear wheels, according to Nissan representatives, play a very important role - "reduce drag and increase maneuverability with a weight distribution ratio of 30/70 (front / rear)."

The Blade Glider positions the driver in the center and passengers on either side of the back.

Francois Bancon, senior manager of product strategy and product planning at Nissan, commented:

“Our goal is to revolutionize car architecture to evoke new emotions, provide a new 'look' and make visible to the consumer how zero emissions can help redefine our understanding of the fundamentals of a vehicle.

On the technical side, the sporty Blade Glider is known to have a carbon fiber chassis and a reinforced plastic (CFRP) body. The rear wheels of the Blade Glider are equipped with electric motors.

“When the Blade Glider grows to production, it could be the first Nissan car to use in-wheel motors,” said Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Nissan.

More details about Nissan's innovative sports car will likely be announced on November 19 at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, where the concept will premiere.
