After the defeat of master Lee Sedol in a five-game series of go games against the AlphaGo program, the South Korean government decided to allocate a trillion won to the development of its own artificial intelligence.

According to Xinhua, plans to develop artificial intelligence in South Korea were announced on Thursday. The authorities intend to spend a trillion won ($ 850 million) on its development in the next five years. According to the Ministry of Science, Information and Communication Technology and Future Planning of South Korea, the project will also involve private investors, who are predicted to invest an additional 2.5 trillion won.
The decision was made following a high-profile competition. The master of the ancient game of go, Lee Sedol, spoke out against the artificial intelligence developed by Deep Mind (a division of Google), AlphaGo. The master lost four matches out of five to the program. The Korea Baduk Association has decided to award an honorary ninth dan to artificial intelligence. And the country's authorities ultimately decided to create their own AlphaGo.
It is planned that within the framework of the project a specialized scientific center will be created in the country, which will unite the work of six companies: Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, KT, Naver and Hyundai Motor.
