Today we will talk about modern models of American weapons that ensure the military-technical superiority of the United States on the ground, at sea and in the air.

AH-64D Apache Longbow

F-22 Raptor

What is

The first fifth-generation fighter to be put into service in history. The US Air Force began operating the F-22 in 2005, and today the Americans have built 187 production aircraft. This is much less than the originally planned 750, but also a lot by modern standards. The fighter is multipurpose. In addition to the AIM-120 and AIM-9 air-to-air missiles, it can take two JDAM bombs or eight miniature GBU-39s. The aircraft proved its versatility in Syria when, in an 11-hour flight, it completed its strike mission, reconnoitred enemy ground forces, aimed other aircraft at targets and escorted bombers.

Superiority over the enemy

The main feature is stealth. Before us is a full-fledged stealth that can perform all the tasks currently on the shoulders of fourth-generation fighters. And even more. The F-22 is much faster than other fighters: it is capable of a supersonic cruising speed of 1960 km / h. Together with the powerful radar station APG-77, the initiative in aerial combat will always (or almost always) be on the side of the Raptor. So, in terms of the sum of his qualities, he is the most powerful "air fighter" in the world.

Recently, the F-22 in the American arsenal was supplemented by a new fifth-generation fighter - the F-35. It is cheaper, but at the same time it is inferior to the Raptor in a number of characteristics. In the future, the F-35 will receive wide striking capabilities and will become, in fact, the best fighter-bomber in the world.

AH-64 Apache

What is

The main attack helicopter of the US Army and the most widespread aircraft of this class in the world. More than 2 thousand AH-64s have been built so far. Basically, the Americans supplied the helicopter to their allies, including NATO. The latest modification is AH-64D Apache Block III, or AH-64E Apache Guardian. He, among other things, can control several UAVs in flight.

Superiority over the enemy

The AH-64 Apache is sometimes referred to as the "old" helicopter. They also indicate that he has many competitors in the market. But even experts forget that the later version of the AH-64D Apache Longbow has abilities that other rotorcraft do not have. With the help of the AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire missile, which has an active radar homing head, the helicopter crew can work on the “fire and forget” principle. So after launch, the car is almost unlimited in maneuvers. Neither the European Tiger, nor the Russian Mi-28 and Ka-52 have anything like this.

FGM-148 Javelin

What is

If we are already talking about missiles, then we simply cannot pass by the famous American portable anti-tank missile system (ATGM) FGM-148 Javelin. This is the first serial third-generation ATGM. The United States adopted it in 1996. The complex was successfully used in Iraq and a number of other countries, and was exported. The maximum effective range is 2500 m. The deployment time is less than 30 seconds.

Superiority over the enemy

At ATGMs of the previous generation, such as the domestic "Reflex" or "Kornet", guidance is carried out by a laser beam, which requires illumination of the target until it is hit by a missile and constrains the actions of the calculation. In this sense, American Javelin has become a real revolution. The missile of the complex has an infrared homing head: the principle of "fire and forget" is implemented here. The missile is capable of soaring up after launch and hitting the tank in the weakly protected upper part. So the Javelin does not care whether it is in front of a T-34, T-72B3 or Leopard. The result is likely to be the same.

In addition to the Javelin, the “fire and forget” principle was implemented on the Israeli Spike ATGM and the Japanese Type 01 LMAT. In the post-Soviet space, there is nothing similar to the FGM-148 Javelin and, most likely, will not appear.

UGM-133A Trident II (D5)

What is

This is an American solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched from nuclear submarines, primarily of the Ohio type. In fact, Trident II is the backbone of the American nuclear triad. And, although the Cold War is over, the United States does not intend to abandon the "nuclear club".

Superiority over the enemy

No other solid-propellant ballistic missile in the world has such capabilities and no other submarine carries as many ICBMs as the Ohio (24 Trident II ballistic missiles are on board this type of boat). With a range of 11,300 km, the UGM-133A Trident II (D5) has a throw-weight of 2800 kg. For comparison, the throw weight of the newer Bulava is 1150 kg. Trident II has fantastic reliability: from December 4, 1989 to December 19, 2009, 130 launches were made - all successful.

Aircraft carriers such as "Gerald R. Ford"

What is

We simply could not pass by the main novelty of the American military-industrial complex of recent years (if not decades) - the newest aircraft carrier of the Gerald R. Ford type. The lead ship was commissioned quite recently: May 31, 2017. A total of ten such aircraft carriers are planned to be built: new ships will gradually replace the well-deserved Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. In general, the ships are conceptually close and both types of aircraft carriers provide America's superiority in the oceans.

Superiority over the enemy

No country in the world has anything like Nimitz or Gerald R. Ford. The rest of the aircraft carriers, such as the French Charles de Gaulle, are much smaller in size and carry incomparably fewer aircraft and helicopters. In total, the Gerald R. Ford Aviation Group includes 75 aircraft. The main novelty is the F-35 fighter. This is the only fifth-generation carrier-based fighter aircraft to date. Another feature of the ship is the EMALS electromagnetic launch catapult, which will increase the maximum number of aircraft launches compared to a steam catapult like on the Nimitz.
