The launch of the Nauka module using a Proton-M heavy rocket was carried out on July 21. Soon after the launch, various messages began to appear about problems, which concerned, among other things, the rendezvous and docking equipment of the "Science".

Subsequently, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that the docking system had been successfully tested without revealing any problems. It also became known about the successful activation of the main engines of the module.

"Science" will be among the largest modules of the ISS. After the US Destiny Laboratory Module, the European Columbus and the Japanese Kibo, it will become the station's fourth scientific module. To connect it, you need to spend about ten spacewalks.

The latter is associated with a number of difficulties that relate to the resource of spacesuits. Products will expire for the foreseeable future, and production of new ones is experiencing delays. They have already resulted in the loss of some suppliers. Finding solutions will take additional time and require new investment.

In theory, thanks to the resource of the module, Russia can be represented in the ISS program until 2030. However, in practice, the country plans to start withdrawing from it in 2025.

As the reason for this, Roskosmos called the "obsolescence of the ISS" (it must be said that the West is also talking about the abandonment of the station in the foreseeable future). Instead of the ISS, Russia wants to focus on the project of a national orbital station, which will be smaller and cheaper than the international one.

In turn, for the United States and its allies, an alternative should be the lunar orbital Gateway, with the help of which they want to organize manned flights to the Moon, and in the future, possibly, expeditions to the Red Planet. The station can be put into operation in the middle of the decade.
