Nuclear submarines of the fourth generation of the Borey-A project will soon be provided with a new coating that will increase their combat qualities.
The start of production of a new coating for strategic nuclear submarines with reference to the deputy general director for rubber production of the Cheboksary production association named after V.I.Chapaev Sergei Sandalov reported to TASS. “Two new unique coatings have been developed for the Borey-A and Yasen submarine projects. For "Ash" the coating was introduced into production in 2014. For Borey-A, the modernized coating is now being put into production, the launch date is in May 2021, "Sandalov said.
The outer rubber coating of the submarines is designed to reduce their visibility by suppressing their own noise and external sonar signals. As part of the coating - individual plates weighing up to 80 kilograms. Each of them consists of layers of rubber and contains channels aimed at absorbing acoustic waves. The plates are placed on the outside of the submarine's light hull: they are fixed with a sealant and fixed with special screws.
The agency recalls that the Cheboksary Production Association named after V.I. Chapaev is the only enterprise in Russia that produces hydroacoustic coating for all types of submarines of the Russian Navy in a full technological cycle.
Now the nuclear submarine of project 955 "Borey" is the world's only strategic submarine of the fourth (last) generation. Belonging to it speaks, in particular, of an extremely low noise level.
The first such submarine - K-535 "Yuri Dolgoruky" - was handed over to the fleet in 2013. In addition to her, the Russian Navy operates three more similar nuclear submarines: the last of the transferred submarines belongs to the improved version of Borey-A.
The difference between the upgraded version, according to data from open sources, was, in particular, a reduced level of physical fields, improved communications and more comfortable conditions for the crew. The information that appeared earlier about the change in the composition of weapons, apparently, does not correspond to reality.
Let us recall that the basis of the armament of Project 955 submarines is sixteen R-30 Bulava-30 solid-propellant ballistic missiles. The complex was adopted in 2018.
Earlier it became known that Russia has ordered new strategic submarines of the Borey-A project. Now they are testing the fifth submarine of Project 955 - the Knyaz Oleg submarine. In addition, the sixth such boat, Generalissimo Suvorov, is being prepared for launching.
