The Spaniards in a solemn atmosphere began the launch of one of the main hopes of their Navy - the lead submarine of the S-80 Plus project. This is an important event for the country, marking the entry of Spain into the circle of states capable of producing modern submarines. The ceremony was attended by the Spanish royal family.

The Isaac Peral is a large diesel-electric submarine with a total submarine displacement of 3,700 tons and a maximum length of 80 meters. The construction of the submarine began in 2005. In addition to her, the Spaniards will build three more ships of this project. The last of them - Mateo García de los Reyes (S-84) - was laid in 2010.

The third and fourth submarines should initially receive an air-independent power plant. The first two submarines receive it after upgrading.
