The fifth Astute-class submarine was launched in Great Britain. In total, the Royal Navy is to receive seven such submarines.

BAE Systems has launched a new Astute-class submarine for the Royal Navy. The ship was named Anson. The next stage is testing it.

The Astute submarine is the most modern type of submarine in the British Navy. The boat was designed in the second half of the 90s as a development of the Trafalgar-class submarine. The lead ship entered service on August 27, 2010.

The submarine reaches 97 meters in length, its displacement (underwater) is 7800 tons: the crew is 98 people. The boat has six bow 533-mm torpedo tubes. The armament includes Tomahawk cruise missiles.

In addition to multipurpose nuclear submarines, the British Navy has Vanguard-class strategic submarines. They carry Trident II D5 ballistic missiles. In total, the British fleet has four such submarines.
