Two new strategic submarines of the Borey-A project were ordered for the Russian Navy. These boats will become the ninth and tenth ships of Project 955.
The head of the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise Mikhail Budnichenko spoke about the contract for two new Project 955A submarines. The corresponding agreement was signed in July last year.
The submarines will be the ninth and tenth ships built according to Project 955 Borey. The Borey-A variant is an improved version of the submarine. In 2020, the Russian fleet received the first of these submarines.
The project 955 boat belongs to the last generation of submarines - the fourth. She carries 16 ballistic missiles "Bulava": previously there was information about a different number of missiles on the modernized ships, but, as far as can be judged, it does not correspond to reality.
In addition to Project 955 submarines, the Russian Navy also receives other fourth-generation submarines - Project 885 multipurpose submarines. The second such submarine is to enter service next year.
Earlier it became known about the planned test from the lead ship of the project 885 of a new hypersonic missile.
