The Nevsky Design Bureau presented the appearance of a promising transport and hospital ship that can be used for the needs of the Navy.

The specialists of JSC "Nevskoe Design Bureau" have prepared a project of a universal transport and hospital ship (UTGS), built on a modular basis (de facto, we are talking about a whole family of ships).

It was developed on an initiative basis. "The project of a universal transport and hospital ship contains all the functions necessary for carrying out humanitarian operations with the provision of high-quality medical care in any region of our country and the world that has access to the sea," the Nevsky PKB noted.

It is assumed that the UTGS will be useful to the Navy, whose hospital ships are largely worn out. The project involves the widespread use of technical solutions already tested on other samples. At the same time, according to the developers, the vessel will have great potential in terms of modernization.

Engineers are working on several options for UTGS. One of them involves the use of a ship hospital for 500 people, the other - for 1000. In the first case, troops and various equipment can be placed in the cargo spaces. Displacement UTGS will be about 30 thousand tons. The crew will include 60 people, the personnel of the hospital - 742 people. Power plant of the vessel - two DRRA-12000/2 units of the GED unit / 2 units of the "Azipod" type.

The issue of re-equipment of the Russian surface fleet, which has long been in need of modernization, is an acute issue. The most important step on this path can be considered the laying of the first two universal amphibious ships in the history of Russia.

We will remind, earlier it was supposed to purchase French UDC of the Mistral type, however, difficulties in relations between Russia and the West led to the curtailment of the initiative.

It is noteworthy that the Project 23900 universal amphibious assault ships laid down in Kerch should be larger than the above-mentioned UDC of the Mistral type. It is believed that on board each Russian universal amphibious assault ship, it will actually be possible to place several dozen helicopters. The total number of paratroopers will be able to reach 1000 people.

A more uncertain fate belongs to the promising Russian aircraft carrier. At different times, they offered a different vision of what the ship would be like. The last of the projects known to date received the designation "Varan". It implies the creation of a relatively small aircraft carrier, capable, among other things, of two dozen fourth-generation fighters.
