Moreover, such a phenomenon, as found by American scientists, is observed throughout a woman's life.

The work was published in the Journal of Women and Aging. Scientists from the Institute of Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois (USA) conducted a study involving 32 women. 16 of them were elderly (from 62 to 79 years old), and another 16 were young (18-25 years old).

During the experiment, the women communicated with each other: the interlocutors knew each other or, conversely, did not know each other. In addition, they were given various tasks to strengthen ties with each other.

It turned out that young girls communicated more effectively with acquaintances, but they were less able to establish contact with strangers. But older ladies have shown efficiency in communicating with both those they know and with strangers.

Scientists believe that it is more difficult for young girls to communicate with strangers than older women, due to the lack of relevant experience.

The researchers also measured the levels of cortisol - the stress hormone - in saliva to quantify and compare the participants' stress levels throughout the testing process. As it turned out, cortisol levels were low in both young and age groups of participants when they interacted with familiar partners. Thus, the scientists concluded that socializing with girlfriends reduces stress levels in women throughout their lives.
