State tests of an armored personnel carrier and an infantry fighting vehicle based on the Boomerang wheeled platform have started in Russia. Soon an experimental industrial batch will be supplied to the Armed Forces.
The beginning of state tests of the newest K-16 armored personnel carrier and a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle BMP K-17 on the Boomerang platform with reference to a member of the board of the Military-Industrial Commission of Russia Mikhail Osyko reported to TASS. The number of new types of armored vehicles will be determined in the new weapons program.
Mikhail Osyko noted that Boomerang can be used as a platform for creating communications and intelligence systems. This is facilitated by a large internal volume, which allows you to place the necessary equipment.
Boomerang is a unified combat platform. Developer - Military Industrial Company LLC. The car was first presented at the Russia Arms EXPO exhibition in 2013. An open presentation was held at the rehearsal of the Victory Day parade in 2015.
Earlier it was reported that the first military vehicles will receive in 2019, but these deadlines have not been met. If nothing changes, the machines of the experimental-industrial batch will be handed over to the troops soon.
The combat vehicle weighs approximately 28 tons. The crew is three people, and eight paratroopers can also be accommodated inside. BMP based on "Boomerang" has a remote-controlled universal combat module "Boomerang-BM". The basis of its armament is a 30mm 2A42 automatic cannon. Also present are the 7.62mm PKTM machine gun and two twin launchers of the Kornet anti-tank missile system.
Several years ago, instead of a promising uninhabited combat module, a manned module "Berezhok" was installed on a wheeled platform, intended for Soviet-designed combat vehicles. It has a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 30-mm AG-17 automatic grenade launcher in the rear of the turret, a 7.62-mm PKT machine gun and Kornet missiles (what exactly caused the tests of the Boomerang in this configuration - then it was not reported).
Boomerang is one of the most significant new developments in the Russian defense industry. However, this is not the only fundamentally new platform. No less (and probably even more) hopes in Russia are associated with the heavy tracked platform "Armata".
Not so long ago it became known that by the end of the year the army will receive the first 20 T-14 tanks at its base. In addition, in the future, deliveries of new T-15 infantry fighting vehicles based on the "Armata" should begin.
