Russian experts have developed a heat-resistant aluminum alloy that has increased strength and can be used in a variety of areas.
The development of a super-strong alloy was reported by the Materials Letters magazine, a Russian-language review was provided by RIA Novosti. The work was carried out by the National Research Technological University "MISiS", the Siberian Federal University and the Research and Production Center for Magnetic Hydrodynamics.
Scientists have found a way to create a unique high-strength heat-resistant wire. It is made of an aluminum alloy, which was initially cast in the form of a long billet with a diameter of about 10 millimeters in an electromagnetic mold.
The authors of the study obtained a thermally stable structure (up to 400 degrees Celsius), significantly superior in thermal stability to other aluminum alloys.
The conductors created using the new technology will be able to be used in a variety of directions: from railway transport to aviation. They are supposed to replace expensive and heavy copper conductors.
Last year it became known that Russian engineers have found a way to significantly increase the life of the power plant of the new MC-21 airliner by using a super-strong alloy for its engine blades.
